Happy Birthday

IMG_5108Words can not describe our feelings as this day comes to a close.   Our hearts are overflowing and our greatest prayer is that our love will leave a lasting impression on the lives we’ve encountered this week.  From the rising of the sun, to the going down of the same, God showed up in a big way and many lives will be forever changed.

We have fallen in love with children who are more than a label! They may be orphans but they are full of life and a love they long to share. We formed relationships with precious people and showed them they were special. It didn’t matter how much we showed them, they showed us so much more!

The children don’t usually go outside if it is too hot so yesterday they did not go out. Since most of us are Texans this was a difficult concept for us to understand-we are used to the heat.  Today, though, we were given the go ahead to take the children out to play in the morning.  We played with sidewalk chalk, bubbles, balls and just had fun.

After another wonderful lunch at the orphanage we got everything ready for the party. No one that we knew was having a birthday, but every child deserves to know they are special and we celebrated them all with a big birthday party with cake, cookies, balloons and party favors. From the looks on the kids faces I think they all had a great time and left knowing they were loved. IMG_5165They certainly know how to make a beautiful cake in China!

Before we left for the day we took lots of pictures and shared hugs and gifts. The orphanage staff showed us how much they truly loved these kids and for many of them it radiated from their faces. That love can never replace the love of a forever family, but until that family comes for them, their basic needs are being met.
